Autumn 2
Welcome to Reception! On this page you can find some useful information about our class work in Phonics and Literacy, Maths and our Topics for each half term. We may also share pictures and news from other areas of learning and development across our EYFS curriculum.
Our Current Topic for Autumn 2 is, ‘Traditional Tales’
This half-term, in Literacy we will be focusing on the book, 'The Three Little Pigs' by Mara Alperin.
We will also look at a variety of other books during our Topic time all about other popular stories and on the run up to Christmas, 'The Christmas Story'.
In maths, the children will begin to explore numbers 1-5 using a range of different equipment, both natural and scientific. They learn to recognise numbers of images without actually having to count them (subitising). We will also start to look at common 2D shapes, including circles and triangles. The children will start to notice them these shapes in the world around them.
Our afternoons will be filled with art, design, PSHE, RE, PE and music - wherever possible, it will link to our 2 curriculum texts ‘The Gingerbread Man’ and ‘The Elves and the Shoemaker’ whereby the children will look for common features of a traditional tale and identify main characters, settings and storyline. We will use our story voices and drama skirl to add focus and passion into the story – we encourage the children to do the same.
We are excited to show you what we will learn and create!
Thank you, Miss Barnes and Mrs Mason
